Sumo Slots

Sumo Slots
Sumo Slots is basically the low fi and low budget Sumo match in slot form. It looks decent and plays well enough, but lacks any of the things that you would come to associate with a well made game. We did not thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent with it, wishing that they had put in more effort here to make something memorable and worth spending time with. As it stands, there is not anything about this largely copy and paste slot that is going to stand out or stick in your mind as much as the titular thong on the fat Japanese leading character. It is not bad, but it’s definitely not all that good.

We recommend giving it a spin and skipping all of this review. If not, read on and we will talk about it with you until you do!

Premise

The premise of Sumo Slots is fat Japanese men. That does not take into consideration the novel choice of still having playing cards to match, but it is not just about big old men wearing large diapers pounding each other in the face. There is an unexpected amount of variety on offer that in part may be from the mismatch that has with your expectations going into it.

Presentation

Graphics in Sumo Slots are largely bad. They are not crappy, but they are pretty close to it. The UI is certainly forgotten and slapped together, and it all looks like a reskin of another game. There are still some authentically interesting things to match given the source being fat men, and the game wastes no time in getting you up to speed on what everything is that you should be on the to look out for as you play. The color choices here are decidedly not very Japanese, but it still holds its own as well.

Mechanics

Gameplay in Sumo Slots is very formal. At 5 reels and 25 pay lines, it is about what you would expect on that end. You match big Japanese dudes with geishas and the referee, in addition to suits of playing cards that you would expect once you see the first one of them stomp on by.

The only saving grace in Sumo Slots are the rather large jackpots, which go a long way to keep things fresh. Bets go from a penny to $5, which also keeps things pleasant for old and new comers alike.

Likes

+ Theme is unique + More diverse gameplay than expected + Big payouts like the big titular character

Dislikes

- Graphic style is very poorly done - Backgrounds suck a lot

Conclusion

Sumo Slots is not a game made with much care. The only way to get around this is to have a keen desire for money going into it, or a fondness of fat Japanese men. The former is likely your best bet, as anyone that love fat guys is likely dead inside and unable to play this game.

If you are looking for something different, or well made, this isn’t it. If you like money and have the time to play, however, you can do a lot worse. Give Sumo Slots a spin, and let us know what you think of it!
